Have you ever opened Canva with a great idea… and then immediately felt stuck?
You know you need a graphic.
You know what you want to say.
But staring at a blank page can feel surprisingly intimidating.
If you’ve ever spent more time deciding where to start than actually creating your content, you’re not alone.
One of my favorite Canva tips is also one of the simplest:
Stop starting from scratch.

Templates Are Your Friend
Many people assume they need to create every design themselves.
The good news is that Canva has already done much of the work for you.
Instead of starting with a blank page, search for a template that matches the type of content you want to create.
You can find templates for:
- Social media posts
- Stories
- Flyers
- Presentations
- YouTube thumbnails
- And much more
Think of templates as a starting point, not a finished product.
Make It Your Own
Once you find a template you like, simply:
- Replace the photo
- Update the text
- Change the colors if you’d like
Within minutes, you have something that looks polished and professional without needing design experience.
You don’t have to be a graphic designer.
You just need a place to start.
Why This Matters
One of the biggest obstacles to creating content is overwhelm.
Templates remove that obstacle.
Instead of wondering:
“How do I design something?”
You can focus on:
“What message do I want to share?”
That’s a much easier question to answer.
Your 5-Minute Action Step
Open Canva and search for a template related to something you want to create this week.
Choose one.
Change the text.
Swap the photo.
That’s it.
Done is better than perfect.
Tech Confidence Takeaway
You don’t need to create everything from scratch. Sometimes the smartest shortcut is starting with a template.
