How to Rename Your Facebook Business Page

Sometimes your business changes—and your Facebook Page needs to change with it.

Maybe you’ve rebranded, changed the name of your business, corrected your messaging, or simply realized the Page name you chose years ago no longer represents what you do today.

The good news is that you don’t have to create an entirely new Facebook Page just because the name needs an update. Facebook allows Page administrators with the appropriate access to request a change to a Page’s name.

Your Facebook Page Name and Username Are Not the Same Thing

Before you start clicking, there’s an important distinction to understand.

Your Page name is the business or brand name displayed prominently on your Facebook Page.

Your username is associated with your Page’s Facebook address and usually appears with an @ symbol.

For example, changing the Page name does not necessarily mean your username will automatically change along with it.

For this tutorial, we’re specifically talking about changing the name of your Facebook Page.

How to Change Your Facebook Page Name

Facebook changes its menus from time to time, so the exact wording or location you see may vary slightly. You’ll also need to have the appropriate Facebook access for the Page.

Start by switching into the Facebook Page you want to manage.

From your Page, go into Settings and look for the area where Facebook allows you to manage or edit your Page information or Page setup.

Find your Page’s Name setting and select the option to edit it.

Enter the new Page name you want to use, carefully check the spelling, and follow Facebook’s prompts to submit your change.

Remember: this is a request to change the name. Submitting a new name doesn’t necessarily mean the change will happen instantly.

Why Might Facebook Review Your New Page Name?

Facebook has rules around Page names, so your requested name may be reviewed before it is approved.

That’s one reason I recommend choosing a name that clearly and accurately represents your business, brand, or organization rather than trying to stuff extra descriptions, slogans, or promotional language into the Page name.

If Facebook doesn’t approve the request, review the information Facebook provides about the decision and its current Page-name requirements before trying again.

Will Changing Your Page Name Change Your Username?

Not necessarily.

This is an easy detail to miss.

If you’ve rebranded your business, you may also want to look at your Facebook username after your Page name has been updated.

You don’t want to successfully rename your business Page and then discover that the @username or Facebook address is still tied to your old branding.

While you’re doing a rebrand, it’s also a good time to check the rest of your Page for outdated information, including your profile and cover images, bio, website, contact information, and other business details.

Don’t Start a New Facebook Page Just Because Your Name Changed

If you already have an established Facebook Page with followers and content, don’t automatically assume that a business name change means you need to throw everything away and start over.

First, see whether updating your existing Page makes sense for your situation.

A few minutes spent updating your Page information may be much easier than rebuilding an audience from scratch.

Your business can evolve. Your branding can evolve. And yes, even that Facebook Page you created years ago can evolve with you.
