Have you ever been typing on your computer and wanted to add an emoji, only to realize you had no idea where to find one? 😂
Maybe you grab your phone to look for it.
Maybe you search online and copy and paste the emoji you want.
There’s a much easier way.
Windows has a built-in emoji picker, and you can open it with one simple keyboard shortcut:
Windows key + . (period)
Yep. That’s it.
📺 Watch the video below to see exactly how it works.

How to Open the Windows Emoji Picker
First, click anywhere you can type.
That might be:
- An email
- A social media post
- A document
- A message
- A comment
Then press:
Windows key + .
The emoji picker will pop up right on your screen.
Find the emoji you want, click it, and Windows inserts it wherever your cursor is.
No phone required.
No searching online.
No copying and pasting.
Find the Emoji You Want Faster
You don’t have to scroll through every emoji hoping to stumble across the right one.
You can use the search feature to help find what you’re looking for.
Need a heart? Search for one. 💙
Looking for a laughing face? Search for it. 😂
Want a celebration emoji? Search and see what comes up. 🎉
It’s much faster than hunting through rows and rows of tiny faces trying to remember where your favorite one lives.
Why Use Emojis on Your Computer?
If you spend time writing emails, social media posts, comments, or messages from your computer, emojis can help add a little personality and emotion to your words.
And you shouldn’t have to interrupt what you’re doing and reach for another device just to find one.
That’s what I love about little shortcuts like this.
You learn them once, and then they’re there whenever you need them.
Your Quick Win
The next time you’re typing on your Windows computer and think:
“I need an emoji here.”
Don’t reach for your phone.
Just remember:
Windows + .
One tiny shortcut.
One less unnecessary step.
And one more little Tech Confidence win. 💙
