My Favorite AI Productivity Tip: Use AI as a Thought Partner

Most people are using AI as a search engine.

There’s nothing wrong with that, but I think they’re missing some of the most powerful capabilities these tools have to offer.

I don’t just use AI to answer questions. I use it to challenge my thinking, organize ideas, identify opportunities, and help me solve problems.

That’s why I think of AI as a thought partner instead of a search engine.

Stop asking only simple questions

Many people approach AI like this:

  • What’s the answer to this question?
  • Write an email for me.
  • Summarize this article.

Those are useful tasks, but they’re only scratching the surface.

Instead, try asking bigger questions:

  • What opportunities am I missing?
  • What weaknesses do you see in this plan?
  • What questions should I be asking?
  • Can you help me organize these ideas?

The quality of your questions often determines the quality of your results.

AI can help you think more clearly

One of my favorite uses for AI is simply talking through ideas.

You don’t have to start with a perfect plan. You don’t need perfectly organized thoughts.

You can begin with a simple idea and work together to build something stronger.

Your experience still matters

AI isn’t here to replace your creativity, wisdom, or experience.

It isn’t here to do your thinking for you.

Instead, it gives you another perspective, helps you identify patterns, and allows you to move forward more efficiently.

Think with AI, not just through AI

The next time you open ChatGPT, Gemini, or another AI tool, try treating it like a brainstorming partner instead of a search engine.

You might be surprised by what happens.

Technology should help us work smarter, think more clearly, and create more time for the things that matter most.

And I think that’s a pretty great place to start.
