Facebook Featured Posts: How to Use Them—and How to Find Them

If you manage a Facebook Group, you’ve probably had this happen:

You share an important post.

Everyone needs to see it.

And two days later it’s buried underneath everything else in the group. 😂

That’s where Featured posts can help.

But there’s another side to this feature that I think is just as important.

If you’re a member of Facebook Groups, important information may already be sitting in the Featured section—and you may not even realize it’s there.

Especially when you’re using Facebook on your phone.

So let’s look at this feature from both sides.

📺 Watch the video below to see how Featured posts work for both group admins and group members.

If You Manage a Facebook Group: Use Featured Posts

When you have information that you don’t want disappearing into the regular group feed, you can add that post to your group’s Featured section.

This can be especially useful for things like:

  • Important announcements
  • Upcoming events
  • Frequently asked questions
  • Group rules or instructions
  • Helpful resources
  • Trainings
  • Links members regularly need

Instead of repeatedly reposting the same information, you can give important content a more permanent place where members can find it again.

That’s good for you and your community.

Featuring a Post Helps—but It Doesn’t Guarantee Everyone Will See It

Here’s the part group admins need to remember:

Featuring something doesn’t necessarily mean every member will notice it.

Facebook looks different depending on the device someone is using, and Featured content can be particularly easy to overlook on mobile.

So if something is really important, don’t simply feature the post and assume your job is done.

Tell your members where to find it.

You might say:

“I’ve added this to our Featured section so you can easily come back to it later.”

Now you’re not only organizing your group—you’re teaching your members how to navigate it.

If You Belong to Facebook Groups: Check the Featured Section

Now let’s flip this around.

How many Facebook Groups do you belong to?

And when was the last time you deliberately checked their Featured content?

There may be information sitting there that you’ve completely missed.

Group admins often use Featured posts for exactly the things they want members to be able to find again.

If you’re only scrolling through whatever Facebook happens to put in your feed, you may never see those posts.

So when you join a group—or when you’re looking for something you remember seeing—check the group’s Featured section.

You might be surprised by what’s waiting there.

Mobile Users: Pay Extra Attention

This is especially important if you primarily use Facebook on your phone.

Depending on Facebook’s current layout and app version, Featured content may not be as obvious as you expect.

That’s why it’s worth learning where your group’s Featured area is instead of assuming that an important post will automatically appear in your regular feed.

Facebook changes its interface frequently, so the exact location may move over time.

The important thing is knowing that Featured content exists and is worth looking for.

Good Community Management Works From Both Sides

I love this particular Facebook tip because there’s a lesson here for everyone.

If you’re the admin: make important information easier to find.

If you’re the member: learn where admins are putting that important information.

Technology works better when we understand how the people on the other side experience it.

So here’s your Quick Win:

If you manage a Facebook Group, take a look at your Featured section and ask yourself:

Is the most important information in my group easy to find?

And if you’re a member of Facebook Groups:

Go check Featured.

You may discover something you didn’t even know you were missing. 💙
